I Am Slow

EVENTS_EMHENDERSONCOLLAGE

When I say that I am slow, I don't mean slow-witted--although you are free to make that determination for yourself. I am just slow...slow to wake up in the morning, slow to fall asleep at night. I was always the last person to fall asleep at slumber parties. I am slow getting ready to leave the house, I am slow leaving a party. Take, for example, last night. I was invited to a "meet and greet" with HGTV "Design Star" and host of "Secrets from a Stylist" Emily Henderson. There was a bevy of lovely, interesting, hilarious, and nice people there, which I think is a really good reflection of Miss Emily H. herself. Many of the guests are bloggers, some were just regular people ;), but everyone was really nice. Including Emily. Which is probably why I was one of the last people to leave. Okay, I was the last person to leave.

Yours slowly,

Emily

Beautiful Blue Kitchen via House Beautiful

Source: housebeautiful.com via Beautiful on Pinterest

How pretty is this? I was just thinking the other day about things that are way overdone in many kitchens today...and then I came across this one. How beautiful, purposeful, timeless and pretty. Naturally, it's from House Beautiful. Designers: William Diamond and Anthony Baratta (DiamondBaratta Design)

elle decor concept house & restoration hardware

I've spent a week with a wonderful group of editors, designers, bloggers and design industry influentials via the one-of-a-kind Kravet Blogfest2011. There will be much for me to share, but I am still processing all the amazing events, photos, encounters.

Image002
One of my favorite parts of the three-day conference in New York City was a visit to the ELLE DECOR Concept House. The house will be open to the public beginning tomorrow, and is well-worth a visit if you happen to be in-town. One of my very favorite items were the absolutely fabulous 18th Century Teak Wingback Chairs from Restoration Hardware. I also briefly met designer Todd Nickey, who's outdoor terrace design featured these chairs. He was is charming as he is talented. I hope you are having a lovely week, and I will be back soon with more fun details of the week.

may 2011 cover of vogue with reese witherspoon

may_2011_vogue_cover_reese_witherspoon

I've created a Feng Shui Color Guide for the BOA Style blog, and I have found myself deeply immersed in Saffron Yellow. In Feng Shui, Saffron is a "Yang" color, which makes it a very powerful force of energy in our lives. In fashion and home, I've found too much of Saffron, Orange, or Gold can be overwhelming. I once painted my apartment bright yellow because I thought it would help me get over a bad break-up. It worked, but if you let the color go too Orange, it can become oppressive and stressful. I have first hand experience with this as well, but I won't tell you more to protect the innocent ;) As for wearing Saffron, I'll leave that to others, however, the May 2011 Vogue cover of Reese Witherspoon really illustrates how powerful Saffron is--she just jumps off the page, doesn't she? You can almost feel her energy and excitement, and knowing that she actually is at a point of new-beginnings and renewed energy, it's just all the more fitting, don't you think?

Have a beautiful day!

XO

(2) Pew Research sheds light on who's blogging, are we the only one's on Twitter? And how are teens (and the rest of us) using the internet and technology today.

(3)The Cherry Blossoms are in bloom! From March 27 until April 11th the Nation's Capital will celebrate the annual festival. The festival commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 Cherry Blossom Trees to the U.S. from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo. Thanks! Here's a link to a moving article about the story behind the Cherry blossoms.

Enjoy!

Getting Organized

Mongol-life-04-01-1957-006-a-thumb

I am someone who, without a little structure, will just wander around aimlessly (metaphorically and literally). I really could use a secretary. I think I may be at the point of actually hiring someone to help me out.

Elle Decor, Allen and Rice home, 1950s George Nelson secretary

Speaking of secretaries, here's one I wouldn't mind getting my hands on (via ELLEDecor).

Oh Tiger Woods Why?

vintage children's books
As we experience yet another moment of celebrity schadenfreude, has anyone considered the possibility that Tiger Woods is suffering from an addiction? I refuse to believe that someone in their right mind would behave the way he has. Maybe I'm naive, a hopeless optimist. A pollyanna.
