I Am Slow

EVENTS_EMHENDERSONCOLLAGE

When I say that I am slow, I don't mean slow-witted--although you are free to make that determination for yourself. I am just slow...slow to wake up in the morning, slow to fall asleep at night. I was always the last person to fall asleep at slumber parties. I am slow getting ready to leave the house, I am slow leaving a party. Take, for example, last night. I was invited to a "meet and greet" with HGTV "Design Star" and host of "Secrets from a Stylist" Emily Henderson. There was a bevy of lovely, interesting, hilarious, and nice people there, which I think is a really good reflection of Miss Emily H. herself. Many of the guests are bloggers, some were just regular people ;), but everyone was really nice. Including Emily. Which is probably why I was one of the last people to leave. Okay, I was the last person to leave.

Yours slowly,

Emily

design bloggers are the new curators at nydc

What's New What's Next Event kicks off today at the New York Design Center, 200 Lexington Avenue (at 33rd). The "New Curators" will be live-blogging, tweeting, and doing what we all do best--sharing the newest design, products, and people in the world of Interiors.

Whats New Whats Next NYDC
I know a few of these talented bloggers, but I am looking forward to connecting with all of them in person. The great thing about blogging is that you can really "get to know" people from all over the world, which opens you up to so many more ideas and inspirations. As someone who has lived in New York for going on 20 years, I know how easy it is to get myopic in your thought process. And as a stay-and-work--at-home mom, it is ever so helpful for me to be able to "log on" and learn from all of these creative, clever, and unique voices. I often find myself living vicariously through some of their jet-setting lives as I hold a baby on my lap in front of the computer! I am very excited for a day of design, and I hope you will join us, live or in person.

eco-friendly in the east village

Lookbook050905_275           Lookbook050815_275

Last night I visited the apartment building where I'm going to be signing books on Sunday (BRIDES and IKEA's Newlywed Nest Event.) 311 East 11th Street, The Village Green, is a brand new LEED certified apartment building. Michael and Izak Namer are the developers, and I had a chance to learn about the construction and the process of gaining LEED certification. It's quite a process indeed. This is only the beginning, but at least we're moving in the right direction.

Martha Stewart Radio on Sirius Satellite Radio

I was on Martha Stewart Radio's Morning Living Show, Sirius Channel 112 and XM 157, last week to talk about my new book, Eco-Chic Home. I was so thrilled that they asked me to be on the show.

_MG_8513 I've been there twice before, once to talk about my Eco-Chic Weddings book, and once to talk about a green wedding article in Martha Stewart Weddings that featured some of my ideas (read more about the wedding here). When the hosts, Kim Fernandez and Betsy Karetnick, asked me about a project in my book, I told them about the wire vessel made from a wire hanger (pictured above). But then I forgot to mention an idea that would have been a perfect one to share...grrrr. I thought of it about five minutes after I left the building. Don't you just hate that? So, I will tell you about the idea I wanted to share--it has to do with a long leather coat from the late '90s and a pair of scissors. Check back later today!

P.S. By the way, be sure to check out the Martha Radio Blog, there are two great posts you should read about container gardens (yes, Spring is on its way) and also about The French Laundry.
